I Lacuna Coil sono considerati gli alfieri della musica gothic metal italiana. Anche se sono più famosi all'estero, va ricordato che la band è italiana ed è nata a Milano nel 1994. Agli inizi si presentarono al pubblico con il moniker di Sleep of Right, cambiato poi in Ethereal nel 1996 per poi passare al nome definitivo solo nel 1997. In quegl'anni si cimentano e iniziano a concerti live spesso come band accompagnatrice. Nel 1999 la svolta con l'uscita del primo album vero e proprio, In a Reverie La band così inizia ad avere popolarità in tutta Europa e negli States, grazie ad alcune esibizioni dal vivo nei festival internazionali ed europei. Nel 2000 esce Halflife, che contiene anche il brano in italiano Senzafine e nel 2001 esce l'album Unleashed Memories in cui lasciato più spazio alla melodia. Nel 2002, i Lacuna Coil pubblicano Comalies e con il successivo successo acquistano la consacrazione e fama anche fuori dei confini italiani.Questo album segna un radicale cambiamento nello stile del gruppo perchè abbandonano il gothic metal per passare ad una miscela di hard rock, ritmi serrati e melodie difficilmente etichettabili. Il successo di Comalies arrivò anche negli Usa in quanto entrò (per la prima volta nella loro storia) al 178° posto della classifica Top 200 di Billboard, che certifica i dischi più venduti negli Stati Uniti e nel 2004 hanno partecipato all'Ozzfest. Nel 2006 è uscito Karmacode, che, a differenza dei precedenti lavori dei Lacuna coil, tutti con sound europeo, presenta marcate sonorità americane. L'album nella prima settimana di uscita, ha raggiunto la posizione n° 28 della Top 200 di Billboard e addirittura la posizione n°1 della Top Independent Albums, la classifica degli album indipendenti (ovvero non distribuiti da una grande etichetta discografica). Sempre nel  2006 si sono classificati primi nella MTV Top 100 of 2006, con il singolo Enjoy the Silence, cover della celebre canzone dei Depeche Mode. Da allora le turnè e le varie partecipazioni sparse per il mondo si sono duplicate e Cristina Scabbia (l'affascinante cantante) è stata invitata al Festival di Sanremo per duettare con L'Aura.  Il prossimo album è atteso per verso settembre 2008.

Ciao a tutti, sono nuova qui...vi presento una delle migliori canzoni dei Blind Guardian come primo post, poi magari mi evolvo!! Il brano parla della presa di Troia e la fine dell'Iliade...lascio la parola ai Blind!! (spero che nessuno l'abbia già postata, si sa mai...)

Recensione: The Code Is Red...Long Live The Code

Dopo Order Of The Leech (2002), ultimo album con Jesse Pintado alla seconda chitarra – anche se ufficialmente non vi ha suonato durante le registrazioni – la band di Birmingham capitanata da Shane Embury ricomincia la sua carriera con questo The Code Is Red...Long Live The Code (da qui in poi TCIRLLTC). Molto è cambiato nella scena grindcore, soprattutto con l'avvento degli svedesi Nasum che hanno saputo rinfrescare il genere con un sound unico e proprio della band. Per i Napalm Death, quindi, che è stato il primo gruppo a portare bene in vista l'appellativo di band fondatrice del grindcore, presentarsi nel 2004 senza cambiare pelle è impossibile.
Ed ecco che “Silence Is Deafening” fa subito presa nell'ascoltatore, proponendo un attacco senza fronzoli e testi – come nella migliore tradizione napalmdeattiana – pungenti ed al vetriolo, capaci di parlare di politica in maniera schietta senza prendere (né indurre a farlo) uno schieramento politico: sono testi capaci di trasmettere la rabbia, la sfiducia, la paranoia e quel continuo sentirsi insicuri in una società che diventa sempre più cupa e volta ad una certa autodistruzione politica/economica/personale.
Ritornano le cosiddette “microcanzoni” tipiche dei primi lavori dei ND (Scum e From Enslavement To Obliteration in primis), che in due occasioni, nella fattispecie “Right You Are” e “Diplomatic Immunity”, fa respirare quanto di buono ed ascoltabile c'era nel debutto Scum del 1987. Inoltre, i ND pagano omaggio e rispetto ai Nasum (orfani del chitarrista fondatore Miezko Talarczyk, morto nella tragedia dello Tsunami in Indonesia) attraverso una furia rinnovata e ritrovata dopo gli esperimenti sonori degli anni '90. Una furia che viene espressa ad ogni nota in qualsiasi canzone, come in “Vegetative State” e la traccia che dà il titolo all'album, ma che è capace di diventare ironica ed istrionica come nell'ottima “The Great And The Good”, per poi sfociare nella paranoia di “Pledge Yourself To You”. In questo disco, tra l'altro, ci sono ospiti di lusso come il mitico Jello Biafra, leader dei mitici Dead Kennedys, Jamey Jasta (seconda voce in due canzoni) e perfino Jeff Walker dei defunti (ma ora riformati) Carcass. Oltre ad invogliare l'acquisto, sono stati capaci di esprimersi ottimamente, regalando delle performance degne della loro fama.

Mitch Harris si riconferma alla chitarra, usando un congruo mix tra i riff punk e la pesantezza metal, nonché alla seconda voce, con i suoi picchi alti di tonalità vocale tali da rendere ancora più tagliente l'ascolto di TCIRLLTC. Shane Embury fa il suo modesto lavoro da bravo bassista, senza aggiungere né togliere nulla al suo operato. Ottimo il lavoro da parte di Danny Herrera – da sempre una garanzia fin dal suo debutto su Utopia Banished (1992) – che aggiunge ancora più pesantezza al sound, alternando blast-beats con un piede solo a passaggi lenti e psicoticamente introspettivi, come nella disturbante “Morale”. Non c'è molto da dire sulle prestazioni vocali del buon vecchio Barney, se non che finalmente sembra abbia trovato un buon modo per esprimersi rabbiosamente senza risultare goffo od impacciato; in più, nella succitata “Morale” lascia il suo solito modo di cantare gutturale per dare spazio ad una recitazione lisergica, da automa, azzeccando così in pieno il testo della canzone.
La produzione è perfetta e lega in maniera omogenea i suoni della chitarra e del basso, proponendo un buon giuoco tra bassi ed alti nonché garantendo la loro caratteristica dissonanza armonica. Anche la batteria, di solito un punto debole di tutta la produzione dei dischi dei ND, questa volta sembra aver trovato un giusto equilibrio, con una resa martellante ma non eccessivamente “secca” o “tirata” (anche se, effettivamente, nei momenti di maggiore foga il lavoro di doppio pedale viene spesso soffocato dal suono del rullante).

Veniamo ora agli aspetti negativi: come ho già scritto, i Napalm Death pagano omaggio ai Nasum, ma a volte si ha l'impressione che abbiano calcato un po' troppo la mano. I Napalm Death di adesso sono forse meglio di quanto lo fossero in passato, ma chi li conosce da molto tempo potrebbe avere da ridire riguardo questa scelta sonora, privilegiando una certa “novità” a discapito di una vera e propria maturazione – cosa che hanno provato a dimostrare, con le sperimentazioni, negli album precedenti. Ad aggiungere benzina al fuoco ci pensa anche la presenza di alcuni momenti stanchi, come per esempio “Climate Controllers” o anche “Striding Purposefully Backwards”, che assumono più il ruolo di semplici apripista a quelli che sono i pezzi più imponenti e distruttivi.
In ogni caso, si tratta di un album davvero coinvolgente, adrenalinico come pochi della loro discografia. Consigliatissimo per i neofiti.

Da questo album è stato girato il video di "Silence Is Deafening" (potete vederlo qui sotto!) e "Morale". Quest'ultimo è incluso anche nella versione digipak dell'album, oltre alla traccia bonus "Losers".
